Melatonin (N-acetyl-5 methoxytryptamine) is a hormone produced in the brain by the pineal gland, as well as in other tissues, from the neurotransmitter serotonin. Melatonin synthesis and release are stimulated by darkness and suppressed by natural or artificial light. When night falls and the eye stops capturing daylight, the retina sends stimuli through the nerves that reach the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus and this, in turn, sends signals to the pineal gland, initiating the synthesis and release of melatonin. The highest concentration peaks are reached in periods of maximum darkness, in the middle of the night, and gradually decrease until morning, remaining very low throughout the day.

How to take melatonin drops?
